Kevin McCauley, MD
Meadows Senior Fellow
After developing his own addiction to prescription opioids, however, Dr. McCauley was court-martialed and imprisoned at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. There he read voraciously of what was known about the disease of addiction at that time. Today, he has over 15 years of continuous sobriety and has worked in a non-clinical capacity at several treatment centers, giving over 2,000 lectures on the neuroscience of addiction and recovery management. From 2004 to 2008, Dr. McCauley was Director of a level III Recovery Residence in Sandy, Utah, and the first president of the Utah Association for Recovery Residences.
Dr. McCauley wrote and directed two films: Memo to Self, about the concepts of recovery management, and Pleasure Unwoven, about the neuroscience of addiction, which won the 2010 Michael Q. Ford Award for Journalism from the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers.
Kevin currently lives with his wife, Kristine, in Sedona, Arizona, where he is a graduate student at the University of Arizona School of Public Health.
Smitty Grider, LMSW
Case Manager
Smitty Grider came to The Meadows Case Management from his own private therapy practice in Atlanta, Georgia. He previously worked at Atlanta’s Talbott Recovery Campus as director of spiritual/pastoral care for five years. A cum laude graduate from Auburn University with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting, he completed his master’s in social work at Georgia State University. He is a Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW) in the State of Georgia.
Grider has studied a variety of faiths and approaches to prayer and meditation and is a committed practitioner of Zen meditation. He draws from his own practice to inspire and influence his work as a case manager, assisting others on their search for wholeness. In a previous life, he trained and worked as a Certified Public Accountant, specializing in independent audits. Prior to joining MBH, Grider also worked at a person-centered/humanistic youth experiential center in Atlanta counseling young adults and adolescents.
At home, Grider and his wife enjoy a wonderful community of friends and family. He loves concerts, yoga, running, and is an avid long-distance backpacker. You can frequently find him hiking on the Appalachian Trail.
Cori Fredette, CADC1
Case Manager
Most recently, she served as program coordinator at The Meadows Malibu, where her role included overseeing a wide variety of aspects of that inpatient treatment program. Fredette’s favorite part of her job is working with patients and their families, so the move to Meadows Case Management was ideal for her experience and personality.
A single mom to an amazing young son named Butch, Fredette also enjoys spending time at the beach, hiking, and with loved ones.
Christina Day
A Phoenix native, Christina Day has a background as an underwriter for a commercial insurance company. Over the years, as she watched friends and family members deal with mental health and addiction issues, she knew she wanted to find a way to make a difference. That’s what drew her to working with Meadows Behavioral Healthcare. She began her career at MBH in 2016 as an executive assistant for The Meadows Ranch. Then she transitioned into the role of patient financial coordinator in 2018 before being promoted to lead patient financial coordinator in early 2021. Day’s goal is to provide exceptional customer service to potential patients and families, always delivered with compassion. Her in-depth insurance knowledge and attention to detail ensure she serves them well.
During the day, she’s honored to play a small part in changing lives forever. After work, she goes home to her husband, two young children, and two dogs that are also part of the family. Day loves family barbecues, camping, and riding their side by side.
Program Leadership & Advisory Board
Our program was developed under the guidance of an advisory board made up of some of the most influential people in the substance abuse and behavioral health communities. Dr. Jon Caldwell and Dr. Brian F. Shaw lent their varied expertise to the development of this exciting program.
Team that advisory board with the decades of experience Meadows Behavioral Healthcare has in treatment and recovery, and direction from MBH senior leadership, and you have a winning combination committed to helping you succeed.
